ONLINE THERAPY IN VIRGINIA
Therapy designed to meet you exactly where you are, literally.
Whether you’re in Richmond, Virginia Beach, or Arlington, therapy can come to you.
The therapeutic relationship is the number one predictor of success in therapy. It’s essential that you feel an alignment and connection with your therapist, but what if you’re having trouble finding that person locally? When seeking any type of specialized therapy your local options may be somewhat limited, but teletherapy opens doors across the state so that you can conveniently access therapy tailored to your exact needs. This is particularly beneficial for sexual minorities or individuals with identities or lifestyles that they may feel the need to conceal. You deserve a therapy environment where you can be your authentic self, and online therapy allows you to broaden your search to find a therapist who fully understands and supports you.
Whether you’re in the busy cities of Northern Virginia or living quietly in the Shenandoah Valley, you have access to specialized therapy that meets your unique needs.

Why choose online therapy?
Convenience and Accessibility
Online therapy makes it possible for you to save yourself the time, stress, and gas from navigating traffic. Imagine skipping the notorious I-95 traffic as you try to make it to an appointment in Arlington or Richmond. With teletherapy, your appointment is as close as your device and can meet you exactly where you are. This is particularly beneficial for people with tight schedules or those facing a challenging commute.
Enhanced Privacy and Comfort
With online therapy, there’s no risk of running into someone you know as you leave your therapy appointment. Some clients find that the enhanced comfort of their home helps them feel more at ease when discussing vulnerable topics, such as sex or intimacy. Therapy from home means you can stay in your cozy clothes with a cup of coffee in hand and your pet by your side.
Specialized Therapy at Your Fingertips
When seeking specialized services such as sex therapy, you may find that your options are limited. This is especially true for those who live in rural areas of Virginia, or those who have unique aspects to their identity that are commonly misunderstood. Online therapy eliminates these geographical barriers, allowing you to find your perfect fit. Teletherapy also makes it easier for transgender and non-binary adults in Virginia to quickly access a therapist who is trained to provide a letter of support for gender affirming care.

Online therapy is for couples, too!
Online therapy can be a great option for couples who struggle to find the time for in-person therapy due to time constraints and scheduling limitations. This is especially true for polycules who have even more schedules to line up for availability. People in non-monogamous relationship structures may already find their options are more limited when searching for a therapist who is knowledgeable in their relationship style, but online therapy opens up additional avenues to ensure you find the right fit.
Online couples therapy offers the same benefits as online therapy for individuals, in that it allows you to skip the commute, save time and gas, and access specialized services from the comfort of your home. Couples with children may also be able to save themselves of the hassle of finding a babysitter, but you’ll want to make sure you can schedule during a time where the household is likely to be peaceful and free of distractions.

Common questions about online therapy
-
Although some therapy issues are not suitable for online therapy, research has shown that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many common therapy issues. Online therapy is especially ideal for people who have difficulty accessing in-person therapy due to unique therapy needs, busy schedules, or geographical limitations.

Because I am only licensed in Virginia, you must be physically located in the state at the time of our appointments. This means we'll need to schedule around your traveling plans if you will be out of the state.

When starting therapy with me, I will get you set up in the client portal (TherapyNotes) to sign paperwork. The client portal includes a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform where we will meet for our appointments. You can access the client portal from your smart phone, tablet, or laptop. Other than a device, you will need a private space where you'll feel comfortable talking and a strong internet connection. I use Doxy.me as a back-up method if the client portal is down.
